Introduction
 
Even though Wing Chun Kuen is categorized as a southern style martial art, but compared to the commonly seen southern styles there are some differences.
Wing Chun Kuen originates from a Fukien Siu Lum (Fujian Shaolin) nun called Ng Mui whose first disciple Yim Wing Chun founded the art. Because they were both female, therefore Wing Chun Kuen’s stature and footwork are both mainly tall and narrow. The hand techniques are, soft to overcome hard, sticking to the bridge with short attacks, motions are simple and direct, specializing in attack with capable defenses, whole body co-ordination, front and end can be used accordingly with one another. Special attention is given to sinking the elbows, letting go of the shoulders for inch power generation.
A unique and distinctive technique, Wing Chun Kuen can be described as a unique category within Southern Martial art styles. According to legend, Ng Mu while creating Wing Chun Kuen, deep within her heart she could still remember clearly her hatred for the burning of the Fukian Siu Lum (Fujian Shaolin) Temple, therefore the Wing Chun teachings all stem from one word - “Hatred”.
